SONNY TAYLOR

Feb. 23, 1928-Sept. 23, 2014

Amos Henry "Sonny" Taylor Jr., 86, Pikeville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Rex Health Care Center in Raleigh.

Sonny was born in Greene County Feb. 23, 1928, to the late Amos Henry Taylor and Helen Wells Taylor.

He retired as a foreman with Tri-County Electric after 40 years of service.

Sonny was a member of Nahunta Friends Meeting.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

Sonny was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors, on the water or in the woods. He was a hunter of big and small game, and loved walking in the woods and fields with a gun or being on the water fishing.

Sonny had a huge heart, always giving and reaching out to others; there wasn't a stranger he hadn't met.

He had one true love of his life, Letty, whom he was married to for 63 years.

Sonny was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life. He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them.

A service remembering Sonny will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with Eric Woods officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Park.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Letty Hartley Taylor; sons, Phil Taylor and wife, Tammy, of Pikeville, Neil Taylor of Pikeville and Jeff Taylor and wife, Kelley, of Oxford; and sister, Edna Nickens of Goldsboro.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren Taylor, Haley Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Jacob Taylor, Connor Overby and Chandler Overby, and a great-grandchild, Cayden Taylor.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Perkins.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Nahunta Friends Church, 2537 N.C. 581, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.

The family will receive friends Wednesday after the service at Seymour Funeral Home.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
