MARGARET JANE MILLS KILBY

Mrs. Margaret Jane Mills Kilby, 74, U.S. 220, Ellerbe, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, in First Health Moore Regional Hospital.

She was born April 3, 1940, in Asheville, N.C., a daughter of the late Andrew Blair and Margaret Griggs Williams Skidmore.

Jane was a retired quality control supervisor with several of the textile mills in Wayne County.

She was a longtime member of Pikeville First Baptist Church and an active poll worker for Wayne County Elections.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Lacy F. Mills Sr.

After retirement, she moved to the Ellerbe area and became active in the community, serving as the director of the Ellerbe Senior Center. She was a member of the Ellerbe Lions Club and First Baptist Church in Ellerbe.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Kilby of the home; son, Lacy "Rick" Mills of Concord; daughter, Rhonda Mills Hood of Goldsboro; stepson, Benjamin Kilby of New Freedom, Pa.; stepdaughter, Jane Kilby of Seagrove, N.C.; brother, James Blair Skidmore and wife, Shirley, of Charlotte; and two half-sisters, Sherry Williams Unger of Toms River, N.J., and Lee Williams Lachowitz of Rahway, N.J.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kegan Scott Mills Hood, Kelsey Jana Hood, Katelyn Blair Mills, McKenna Elizabeth Mills and Rachel Bradshaw; five stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Jane's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe, N.C., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jim Brown.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, in Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 1504 W. Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte, N.C., conducted by the Rev. Mike Toney.

Carter Funeral Home of Ellerbe is serving the Kilby family.
