J.E.Andrews Jr., 86, longtime Faison, N.C. resident, passed away Thursday night, July 17.
Funeral will be Monday, July 21, at 1 p.m. at Faison Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Rose and the Rev. Condarie Ellis officiating.
Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Tyndall Funeral Home Sunday, July 20, 5 to 7 p.m. and other times at the family's Cherry Street home in Faison.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he and his wife owned and operated Andrews IGA in Faison. They also operated Sea Vista Motel at Topsail Island. Both retired from Mount Olive College, where they were dormitory advisers and directors, and he was also a college security officer.
He was a member of Faison Baptist Church and was a former member of Miller's Chapel Church. He was a former mayor for the town of Faison and was serving as town commissioner at the time of his death.
He is survived by a son, Jamie Andrews of Faison; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melinda Andrews Malpass of Faison and Faith Andrews Cameron and Richard Cameron of the home; two grandsons, Ricky and Andy Scott Cameron of the home; sister, Mary Rachel Garafola of Hammond, La.; longtime family caregiver and friend, Betty "Toy" Goodwin of Faison; special family friends, Olivia Raper Best of Faison and her son, Will, and family.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Joyce Tew Andrews; his parents, the Rev. Edmond Andrews and Mattie Hatcher Andrews; a son-in-law, Dennis Malpass; and a brother, Donald F. Andrews.
