There will be a time for viewing and fellowship beginning at 10 a.m.

Mr. Stewart's son and daughter, Robert Stewart and Francie Henson, will eulogize their father and Jeremy Stewart, the grandson of Mr. George William Stewart Jr., will deliver the "message" of the hour.

This is the story of a great man, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

George William Stewart Jr. was born Nov. 20, 1921, to Ella and George William Stewart Sr.

He was the second son of three boys.

He served in the United States Navy in World War II, and was on the USS Maloy, supporting operations off Omaha Beach during Operation Overlord June 6, 1944.

His service to our country changed his life and served to help make him the great man he was.

He married the love of his life, Frances Harriett Nickles, Sept. 21, 1946, in Harrisburg, Pa. To date, they had celebrated 67 anniversaries.

To them were born 12 children, seven sons and five daughters -- Stephen Nickles, Robert Bowen, George William III, Mary Josephine, Laurinda Louise, Joseph Morrow, Michael Dominic, Frances Harriett, David Brian, Jacqueline Marie, Patricia Jeanne and John Gerard. The first five were born in Harrisburg, and the remaining seven were born in Raleigh, N.C.

These children have added husbands and wives, though he would never call them in-laws, only family.

To those families were added 33 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild to date.

He was a Godly man, firm in his faith in Jesus Christ, a man who prayed and read the scriptures daily. He loved unconditionally, and gave of himself to a fault.

He didn't always think much of his own accomplishments, but those who knew him were honored to know one of the greatest men who ever lived -- humble, kind, loved.

To our sweet father, you will be greatly missed. Gone from this earth, but not forgotten, waiting for us on the other side. For now you embrace those who went before you, restored in body and mind to the man we will always remember, our first hero. We love you, Daddy.

A veteran's burial will be held Monday, July 21, 2014, at Sandhills Veteran Cemetery, 400 Murchison Road, Spring Lake, N.C., 28390. The committal service will begin at 10 a.m.

During the days of preparation, the family will be receiving friends at the home of Robert "Bob" Stewart at 103 Trey Drive, Goldsboro, N.C.
