HOWARD CARLTON WOOD

Howard Carlton Wood, 92, died Thursday afternoon at Lenoir Memorial Hospital, and had resided at the North Carolina Veterans Home in Kinston.

Born in Wake County, he was the son of the late Newton C. and Sallie Lee Bunch Wood, and was the husband of the late Veta Poe Wood.

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held Monday at noon at Oak View Cemetery in Mount Olive, with the Rev. Kay Hill of The Neuse Baptist Church of Raleigh officiating.

The family will greet friends after the service at the graveside.

Howard was a retired minister, who was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Mount Olive, and had resided in this area and presided in area churches since 1972.

He had also served his country in the United States Army.

Howard is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Crystal Wood of Mount Olive; two daughters and a son-in-law; Myra W. Mitchell of Raleigh and Nancy W. and Bob Geller of Canton, Ga.; a brother; John C. Wood of Jackson, N.C.; a sister; Shirley Evans of Lynchburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
