Louis A. Brewer, 75, Faison, died Monday, July 7, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Louis loved life, and had a rare gift of lighting up any room with his infectious smile, his laughter, his sense of humor and sharing his life philosophy through singing lines from his favorite songs.

He was dearly loved by Peggy, his wife of 57 years; his children and grandchildren; and his numerous family members and friends who knew him.

He was born in Sampson County Feb. 28, 1939, the second of four children of Esthel Craven and Helen Ellis Brewer.

He grew up on the family farm, was a member of the first graduating class of Hobbton High School in 1957 and attended Atlantic Christian College.

Louis was always an entrepreneur, where he was involved in various businesses, including owning a hotel, a car dealership, Brewer Farm Service, Brewer Realty Co. and various construction projects.

Louis was best known as the owner/operator of Lake Artesia for 40 years, where he could channel his love of music and people together in one place.

He was a member of Faison United Methodist Church, and served as a past member of the board of trustees.

Louis also served on various boards, including Sampson County Planning Board, Federal Land Bank Board and Shell Island Board of Directors, and was a member of Piney Grove Ruritan Club and Faison Jaycees.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Peggy Sutton Brewer; his daughter, Tina Brewer Bernhardt and husband, David, of Wake Forest; and his son, Louis Todd Brewer and wife, Michelle, of Mount Olive.

He leaves many wonderful memories to his grandchildren, Chase Christian Bernhardt of Michigan, English Brewer Bernhardt of Wake Forest and Louis Cole Brewer and Caleb Todd Brewer of Mount Olive.

Surviving siblings include brothers, E. Craven Brewer and wife, Ellen, of Warsaw, Glenn D. Brewer and wife, Melba, of Faison and D. Ray Brewer and wife, Elizabeth Bynum, of Fuquay-Varina, and a sister, Debora Brewer of Wake Forest.

He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 11, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Goshen United Methodist Church, 2765 Suttontown Road, Newton Grove, N.C.

Visitation with the family will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

A private burial will take place Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Sampson Community College Foundation, designated for the ACE Program, P.O. Box 318, Clinton, N.C., 28329.

Arrangements are being handled by Crumpler Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton.
