RUSSELL A. CRAWFORD

March 22, 1953-July 4, 2014

On Friday, Russell Aaron Crawford, 61, went to be with our Heavenly Father after a 10-month battle with cancer, a battle he fought harder than anyone expected.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thad Crawford. He was employed with ACME United of Fremont for 20 years. He was a lover of all sports and faithfully cheered for the Carolina Hurricanes, N.C. State, the Washington Redskins and NASCAR. He loved spending time at the ocean and fishing. Before cancer took a grip on his health, Russell's passion was time spent with his granddaughter, Janiya, playing ball, helping her ride her bike, swinging and reading books.

A service to celebrate Russell's life will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Chaplain Paula Griffin officiating. Family members will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Russell is survived by his wife and best friend, Ann Daughtry Crawford; his mother, Virginia Brogden Crawford of Goldsboro; brothers, Ronald Crawford and Thomas "Tommy" Crawford, both of Goldsboro; step-daughters, Jessica Rivenbark of Goldsboro, Beth Rivenbark and her significant other, Sarah Rivenbark, both of Huntersville; his granddaughter, Janiya Thompson of Goldsboro; cousins, Ricky and Sandy Faircloth of Pikeville and their children, Carla Price and husband, Pat of Seven Springs and their children, Megan Price and Sean Eubanks, Windy Faircloth of Garland and her children, Christopher, Erica and Jay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Southeastern Cancer Care Cure for the Colors, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C. 27534 or the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home of Goldsboro is serving the family and online condolences may be sent through www.shumate-faulk.com.
