JANE HOOKS BABCOCK
Jan 1, 1922-Feb. 11, 2014
Jane was born in Fremont, N.C.
After high school, she attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for a year of secretarial training.
In 1942 she accepted a job at Fort Bragg with the District Engineers, and transferred to Monroe, N.C., where a temporary Army camp was being constructed.
From there she moved to Atlanta, Ga., and while working for Western Union in the manager's office, she met the love of her life, First Lt. Robert L. Babcock "Bob," a career Army officer, and they were married June 13, 1948.
They traveled all over the world, and adopted two beautiful children from Germany -- Larry K. Babcock and Lynda S. Babcock.
After Bob's retirement, they made their home in Monterey, Calif., where they were active in their church, First Presbyterian Church of Monterey, and also volunteered at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for almost 20 years.
Jane lived in Granbury, Texas, for the last 10 years, close to her son, Larry Babcock of Fort Worth, Texas, and her daughter, Lynda, and granddaughter, Brianna, who moved back to California in 2010.
Lynda and Brianna were able to speak in Jane's ear, thanks to Larry, and she passed away peacefully with Larry by her side. She was 92.
Predeceased by her husband, Bob, Jane is survived by son, Larry Babcock; daughter, Lynda Crosby; granddaughter, Brianna; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hooks; nephews, Martin, Tommy and Gene Hooks of Fremont, N.C.; niece, Sandra Hooks Bundgaard of Greensboro, N.C.; and many grand- and great-grand nephews and nieces.
A joint interment ceremony will be held for Jane and Bob, June 16, 2014, in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with a military honor guard present.
