Feb. 8, 1927-April 23, 2014

Roswell Cone "Brownie" Brown, 87, Pikeville, peacefully passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Brownie was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Cherryville, N.C., to the late John and Cora Brown.

Brownie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring at the rank of master sergeant in 1972.

Following his retirement in the United States Air Force, he opened Coastline Service Center in Goldsboro, which he and his late wife, Bobbie, owned and operated until 2012.

In 2012, Brownie made the decision to sell the business to a longtime employee, who wished to continue the legacy of the business and serve the customers with the same standards as he did.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with Dr. Bill Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

Brownie is survived by two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Cone Brown of Newland, N.C., and Troy Roswell Brown of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Kordero Holland, Stephen Holland, Kasey Brown, Tanner Brown and Max Brown; great-grandchildren, Taylor Holland and Scott Holland; sisters, Margaret McFadden and Lucinda Brown; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Brownie was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Faye "Bobbie" Wilkerson Brown, who passed April 23, 2012.

The family will receive friends Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times, at the home.

Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan., 66675.
