ROYCE LESTER SNIPES

Royce Lester Snipes, 86, Cary, died Saturday morning.

He was born May 2, 1927, in Johnston County, and was the son of the late Marvin Wilbert and Myrtle Smith Snipes.

He was preceded in death by a sister; Mary Ruth Snipes, and two brothers, Thurman Snipes and Leon Snipes.

Mr. Snipes served his country in the United States Army.

He was a member of St. John's Baptist Church, where he was very active serving as deacon, usher, building committee and trustee.

He retired from GMAC after 34 years of employment.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, April 21, in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home in Princeton, with the Rev. Richard Wynne and the Rev. Rick Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Princeton Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Elma Rose Snipes; two daughters, Elma Beth Snipes of Loudon, Tenn., and Vickie Snipes Richard and husband, David, of Haw River, N.C.; four grandchildren, Mary Dare Olsen, Phillip Eugene Pardue, Teresa Nichole Greco and Tara Rose Elmore; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Dare Olsen, Hunter Robert Olsen, Adelyn Rose Elmore and Elijah Bane Elmore; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Casey Funeral Home in Princeton and immediately following the service.

Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. John's Baptist Church, 1615 A Oberlin Road, Raleigh, N.C., 27608, or Baptist Children's Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 338 Thomasville, N.C., 27360.
