GERTHIA IRENE FERRELL MCDONALD

Gerthia Irene Ferrell McDonald, 95, formerly of Princeton, died Wednesday morning at Smithfield Manor.

She was born Feb. 25, 1919, and was the daughter of the late William Anderson Ferrell and Betty Lela Capps Ferrell.

She was the widow of Clifton "Bud" McDonald, and she was also predeceased by her brothers, Anderson Jr., Clifton and George Ferrell, and sisters, Ethel Flowers, Ruby Holland, Peggy Outland and Darlene Ferrell.

She was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was active with the women's auxiliary.

She had many loves in her life, including her family, gardening and flowers and dancing.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the chapel of Casey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Norma Roberts officiating. The committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Willow Dale Cemetery in Goldsboro.

She is survived by a son, Harold McDonald Sr. and wife, Hildur, of Princeton; daughters, Shirley McDonald Holmes of Princeton, Beverly McDonald Brady and husband, Stan, of Goldsboro and Judy McDonald Tart and friend, Norman Paquette, of Kenly, brother-in-law, the Rev. Gene Outland; sister-in-law, Barbara Ferrell; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff members of Smithfield Manor for all the loving care and support shown to their mother during her stay.

Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral and immediately following the service.
