James Edward Howell, 80, went to be with his Lord Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center surrounded by his family.
James was born in Wayne County Nov. 22, 1933, to the late Claude Nathan Howell and Ioma Grady Howell.
He was a retired car salesman.
James was a member of Church on the Rock.
A service celebrating James' life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Church on the Rock, with pastor David Walston and pastor Joseph Leonard officiating.
James is survived by his wife, Joyce Williams Howell; daughter, Karen Newsome and husband, Chris, of Goldsboro; sons, Shane Howell and wife, Joy, of Goldsboro and Jeffrey Howell of LaGrange; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Rena Cook of Virginia, and stepsons, John Cook and wife, Trinh, of Florida, Michael Cook of Boone and Joseph Cook and wife, Christy, of Reidsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Janet Resor and Bernice Blackmon, and a brother, Ken Howell.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to be made to Church on the Rock, 133 Hill Loop Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
