LUTHER DALTON SMITH

Luther Dalton Smith, 69, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Luther was born in Johnston County May 9, 1944, to the late Elmond and Sallie Stafford Smith.

He had previously worked with Burlington Industries in Goldsboro and the county of Wayne Maintenance and Grounds Division, and retired from O'Berry Center.

Luther proudly served his country in the United States Navy, while serving in Japan and Vietnam.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Pine Forest United Methodist Church, followed by a service celebrating Luther's life at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Vann Spivey officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Luther is survived by his wife, Linda Davis Smith; daughter, Linda Lee Braswell Starling of Princeton; grandchildren, Justin Boyette and Cody Starling; brother, Eugene Smith of Goldsboro; and his twin brother, Luby Smith and wife, Becky, of Goldsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Lason Christopher Smith.
