PIKEVILLE -- Malia Kalama Porter, 15, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Malia was born May 12, 1998, in Craven County to Jason and Tiffany Black Porter.
She was currently a student at Rosewood High School, where she enjoyed playing soccer and being with friends.
A service celebrating the life of Malia will be held Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at 7 p.m. at The Bridge Church in Princeton. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
In addition to her parents, Malia is survived by her sister, Bailey Porter; brother, J.J. Porter both of the home; and grandparents, Kathleen Watts, Patrick Holm and Anna Holm.
Malia was preceded in death by her grandfather, Michael Porter.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Stand Strong Rosewood Fund, 188 Whitley Church Road, Princeton, N.C., 27569.
