LAGRANGE -- Eunice Tilghman Wade, 83, LaGrange, journeyed to her heavenly home Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.
Eunice was born April 19, 1930, in Duplin County to the late Albert Tilghman and Della Mae Lane Tilghman. She was the wife of the late Kermit Marshall Wade.
In addition to her parents and husband, Eunice was preceded in death by her stepfather, who raised her from a young age, Roland Tilghman; son, Fred Marshall Wade; and three siblings, Dorothy Mae Ferguson, Marilyn Pittman and Sidney Tilghman.
Eunice was a longtime member of Walnut Creek Free Will Baptist Church, where she was active in the ladies circle and sang in the choir for as long as her health permitted.
She began working at Britthaven Nursing Home in LaGrange in 1967, where she worked 25-plus years before retiring.
Eunice loved cooking, reading and tending to her flowers, yard and garden. She cherished trips to the beach with Yvonne, lunch with her sisters and spending time with all her family.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony McLamb officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Eunice is survived by a daughter, Yvonne Wade Rabon and husband, Sam, of Raleigh; two grandsons, Sammy Rabon and wife, Lisa, of Raleigh and Dylan Marshall Wade of LaGrange; three great-granddaughters, Taylor, Allyson and Mackenzie Rabon; four siblings, Theodore Tilghman and wife, Hazel, of LaGrange, Barbara Tyndall of LaGrange, Carolyn Ferguson and husband, Glenn, of LaGrange and Pete Tilghman and wife, Cookie, of Kinston; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times, will be at the home.
