MOUNT OLIVE -- Cornelia Williams Edwards, 82, known to most as Connie, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 31, 2013, at her home.
Services to celebrate her life will be Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, and will be officiated by O. P. Miller Jr. and the Rev. Nina Paul Vinson. A private interment will take place after the services.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour before the services Friday, and will be, at other times, at Ms. Edwards' residence, 108 Whitley St., Mount Olive.
Ms. Edwards was born in Charleston, S.C., to the late Charles Benjamin Edwards and Nina Louise Frizzelle Edwards, and she was their only child.
Reared in Snow Hill, she retained her membership at Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church.
Most of her adult years were spent in Mount Olive, where she was a member of the Twentieth Century Club and the Galatea Club, and she had been quite an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her three children, Mary Louise Pope and husband, Patrick Willard Kennedy, of Clayton, Cornelia "Nealy" Pope Lambert and husband, Dr. James Royal Lambert, of Mount Olive and Emmett Judson Pope III and wife, Kimberly Mewborn Pope, of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Ronald Gray Sloan Jr. and wife, Jessica Davis Sloan, of Garner and Abbey Pope and Margaux Pope both of Goldsboro; and her former husband and the father of their children, Emmett Judson "Buddy" Pope Jr. of Morehead City.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Cornelia Elisabeth Sloan.
Her family wishes to acknowledge and thank her wonderful caregivers for the love, care and attention they gave her during her years of declining health.
In lieu of flowers, it is the wishes of the family that gifts be given in her memory to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va., 23060, or the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria, Va., 22311.
