FAISON -- Pastor John D. Morrisey, 88, went from labor to reward Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Carolina East Hospice Center in Kenansville.
Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the lateWalter andMattie Medessa Faison Morrisey, and the husband of eldress Laura Mae Morrisey.
Pastor Morrisey accomplishments were many; he served in the United States Navy during World War II, traveled with his singing group, the "Sampson Harmoniers" and later managed a day care center in Faison.
His greatest calling was the call to preach and teach the gospel. After preaching his initial sermon in 1964, he enrolled in Shaw University Bible school.
In his ministerial service, he pastored the following churches, Watha Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Watha, Byrd's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Rose Hill, William Love Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hampstead and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Point.
His last assignment was pastoring Graham Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and Willard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Pastor Morrisey was an active member of Kenansville Eastern Missionary Baptist Association (KEMBA), having served as vice-moderator for 15 years and moderator for 12 years.
A triumphant homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at noon at Greater Six Run Baptist Church in Turkey, with the Rev. Leslie Morrisey officiating. He will be laid to rest in Devotional Gardens in Warsaw.
Pastor Morrisey will lie in state at KEMBA Headquarters Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
An Inspiration wake with the family present will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Willard Chapel Baptist Church in Willard.
