BETTY GOODSON SUTTON

CARY -- Betty Goodson Sutton, 63, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, after a brief illness.

She was the daughter of the late John M. and Gladys Wells Goodson, and was a native of Mount Olive.

She received her education at B. F. Grady High School, obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees in special education from East Carolina University and did post graduate studies at Duke University in pursuit of her Doctorate of Philosophy.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.

Betty enjoyed sharing her musical talents by playing piano for senior citizens in the area.

She is survived by two brothers, Dr. John Phillip Goodson of Raleigh and James Michael Goodson of Princeton, N.J.; several nieces and nephews, John, David, Sandy, Christie, Caroline, Benjamin and John Michael; and 11 great-nieces and nephews.

She had another brother, Robert Linwood "Bobby" Goodson, who preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held Monday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive, and will be officiated by the Rev. Paul Rose.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh (corner of Morgan and Salisbury streets) Thursday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bob Innskeep officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, 112 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, N.C.
