DUDLEY -- James Bruce Hoggard Jr., 69, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, while at home.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. at Devotional Gardens of Warsaw, conducted by the Rev. Shelton Justice.
Friends and family are being received at the residence at 209 Fox Drive, Dudley.
A native of Aulander, Mr. Hoggard was the son of the late James Bruce and Erma Lee Williams Hoggard, and he was their only child.
He was retired from the United States Army with more than 24 years of service, during which he served during both the Korean and Vietnam wars.
After his military career ended, he then was employed for 20 more years with Motel 6 in Goldsboro in its maintenance department.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Mae Justice Hoggard; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Willie Cartagena of Dudley; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Judy Ladell Hoggard of Pikeville; four grandchildren, Christopher Lee Cartagena of Dudley, Donna Marie Best and husband, Eric, of Mount Olive, Wyatt James Hoggard of Pikeville and Casey Marie Sasser of Rosewood; two great-grandchildren, Austin Lee Cartagena and Haven Elayana Best; and his mother-in-law, Bessie Mae Justice of Dudley.
A great-grandson, Landon Ray Best, preceded him in death.
The family appreciates floral tributes and any and all kindnesses bestowed to them.
