WILLIAM EARL 'BILL' THOMPSON

PIKEVILLE -- William Earl "Bill" Thompson, 75, died Sunday afternoon in Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by family and friends.

Born July 11, 1938, in Wayne County to the late Frank Edward and Margie Dewey Thompson, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jean Craddock Thompson, and a son, Dennis Thompson.

Bill was a United States Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, serving with the military police.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Whitfield and the Rev. Don Sauls officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

A burial service with military honors will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery,

Surviving are his daughter, Lynn Thompson Vergara and husband, Carlos, of Goldsboro; sons, Kevin Thompson and wife, Shelley, and Keith Thompson and wife, Lisa, all of Pikeville; daughter, Penny Thompson and family of Kinston; brother, Jerry Thompson and wife, Debbie, of Amherst, Va.; sisters, Judy Lewis and husband, Walter, of Goldsboro and Marsha Williams and husband, Brent, of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, Dakota Thompson, Hayes Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Makaela Thompson and Michael Vergara; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loving dogs, Ginger and Lady.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to either Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or to a charity of one's choice.
