Leonard was born in Greene County July 19, 1948, to Etheleen Sauls Hikes of Goldsboro and the late Larry Ray Edmundson.

He retired as operations manager from Crown Central Petroleum Corp. in Baltimore, Md. While employed with Crown, he was the recipient of numerous Crowning Achievement Awards, was appointed to serve on the crisis management team, was the Northern Region District Manager of the Year, was the recipient of the President's Cup Award -- Best District Manager for Corporation and developed and implemented a highly successful sales promotion with Fast Fare and East Carolina University -- "Ain't It Great to Tail Gate."

He currently owned and operated Double "E" Concessions with his wife, Kathy.

Leonard made many lasting friendships through the concession business.

Leonard had been a longtime member of Clingman Street Church of God in Goldsboro. He was devoted to his church, served as the Christian education director, chairman of the youth committee, head usher and Sunday school teacher, and was involved in many activities where he utilized his gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

He later joined, and was currently a charter member of, United In Christ Church.

Above all, Leonard loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and those at Surf City in the gated community.

Although Leonard leaves a vacant place in our hearts, we know he truly earned his special place in heaven. Leonard will always be remembered as a loyal man of faith, and had love and respect for everyone who touched his life. The best of Leonard will live on in each of us.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, from 6 to 7 p.m. at United In Christ Church, followed by a service to celebrate Leonard's life at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev.
