MOUNT OLIVE -- Willie Ray Joyner, 66, 1672 Crows Foot Road, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 26, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mr. Joyner was born in Wayne County June 22, 1947, to Nina Carol Britt Joyner and Willie Mintz Joyner.

Retired from Mt. Olive Pickle Co. following 37 years of service, he was owner and operator of W.R. Joyner Electric until his illness.

Ray, a person of faith ready to leave this world if God so chose, but determined to face each day with faith, joy and servitude, was a member of Eureka Christian Church, where he attended faithfully as a child and young man.

As an adult, Ray, a 33nd degree Mason, was a member of numerous civic organizations, lodges, fraternities and clubs, and served his community well by giving back to others. His absence will be felt by not only his family, but by his many friends as well.

A time of sharing with the family will be at Tyndall Funeral Home from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, with services following at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. A committal and burial service, including Masonic rites, will be Saturday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at Britt-Joyner Cemetery near the residence.

Mr. Joyner, preceded in death by his father, Willie Mintz Joyner, is survived by his wife, Anne Collier Joyner of the home; his mother, Nina Britt Joyner of Mount Olive; two sons, Willie Ray "Bill" Joyner II and wife, Angie Lewis Joyner, of Mount Olive and Brian Joyner and wife, Lisa Brown Joyner, of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Sarah Katherine Joyner, David Bill Joyner, Nathan Wallace Joyner and Nolan Ray Joyner; two sisters, Iris J. Weaver and husband, J.L., of Mount Olive and Margaret J. Cook and husband, Henry, of Goldsboro; five brothers, Bobby Joyner and wife, Carol, and Gordan Joyner and wife, Lena, all of Four Oaks, Wayne Joyner of Alexander, N.C., Ricky Joyner and wife, Lee, of Mount Olive and Danny Joyner and wife, Angela, of Four Oaks; and several nieces and nephews.
