JEAN WESTBROOK HOLMES

MOUNT OLIVE -- Hilda Jean Westbrook Holmes, 80, of the Indian Springs community passed away early Friday morning, June 7, 2013, at Genesis Health Care & Rehab Center in Mount Olive.
She is survived by her son, James Phil Holmes and his wife, Debbie, of Mount Olive; her daughter, Eileen Holmes Whitfield and her husband, Roy, of Mount Olive; three grandchildren, John A. Whitfield and his wife, Emily, of Mount Olive, Sara Whitfield of Greenville and Bryce Holmes of Mount Olive; two sisters, Inez W. Potts of Mount Olive and Lorainne W. Sutton of Mount Olive; a sister-in-law, Doris H. Woodard of Wilson; three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Sydney and Sawyer Whitfield; several nieces and nephews; and special friends.
Mrs. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John Lovett and Mamie S. Whitfield Westbrook; and her husband, Mr. F. James Holmes.
Mrs. Jean will be remembered for her loving spirit. Her many years were spent worshipping at Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities. She could always be found in the choir, singing with her closest church members. She also spent the more recent years of her life working part time at Village Decorating in Mount Olive, where her talent in sewing could be utilized.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 6 p.m. in the evening at Tyndall Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Cuddington will officiate the service. Visitation will immediately follow. Burial will be held privately on Tuesday in the Maplewood cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be directed to Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Ms. Jeannie Merritt, 1469 Kelly Springs Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
