IRENE H. PARKS

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Mrs. Mary Irene Herring Parks, 90, passed away Wednesday evening, April 24, 2013, at her home.
Born in Sampson County May 29, 1922, and raised in Wilmington, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Lelon Gordon Herring and Elizabeth Jane Innis Herring.
Irene graduated from New Hanover High School, and worked in Wilmington, where she met and married the late Wesley W. Parks of Seven Springs. They farmed many years together, and her greatest joy was her family.
She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, Ronald Parks and wife, Peggy, of Mount Olive, Ruby P. Sutton and husband, the Rev. Bill Sutton, of Seven Springs, Gloria P. Hall of Mount Olive and Nelson Parks of Seven Springs; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruby Herring, Lewis Herring, Graham Herring, Robert Herring, Elizabeth Blake and Eleanor Bullard; and a daughter- in-law, Jill B. Parks.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, April 26, at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by pastor Doug Johnson, and followed by visitation. Burial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Pineview Cemetery in Seven Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorial gifts be made to Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Larry Williams, 360 Pineview Cemetery Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
