RAYMOND A. WADDELL

Raymond Arthur Waddell, 93, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Raymond was born in Wayne County Aug. 8, 1919, to the late Willie Burton Waddell and Sular Barnes Waddell.

He was preceded in death March 27, 2013, by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Louise Pittman Waddell.

He was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, and was a former member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church.

Raymond joined Carolina Power and Light Co. in 1949, and was a member of a line crew in Goldsboro, and served as groundman, subforeman and senior lineman before becoming a line inspector in 1979. He retired in 1984 after 36 years of service.

He lived a life always ready to take care of his wife, Louise.

In more recent years, he enjoyed the company of his wife and many friends in his retirement community at The Pines.

Raymond was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will always be loved by his children, and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Raymond lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. He served his community many ways from working with the Woodmen of the World to being a member of Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Pioneer Club.

Raymond served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Bailey and the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

Raymond is survived by his children, Gerald Ray Waddell and wife, Patricia, of Goldsboro and Bonnie W. Bundy of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Diana W. Jeffers and husband, Jeremy, Matthew Waddell, Frank Bundy and Amber B. Harris and husband, Jonathan; and a great-grandchild, Elle Chandler Harris.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Geneva W. Pope and Pearl W. Stone, and his brothers, Guy, Robert, Clarence, Frank, Roy, Lester and Aaron Waddell.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care it provided for Raymond during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Also a thank you to the caregivers at the Pines and the Brian Center who cared for Raymond over these past years.
