GEORGE HUGH JACKSON

Sept. 6, 1922-March 25, 2013

George Hugh Jackson passed peacefully after a brief illness March 25, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center to move on to his home in heaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, June Jackson and Mollie Hinson Jackson; two brothers, Frank and Astor Jackson; and a sister, Bert Jackson.

His beloved wife of 61 years, Odessa Extine Jackson, passed away Mach 19, 2004.

He has two sons, George Hugh Jackson Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Woodstock, Ga., and Sandy Jackson of Mount Olive.

He worked for Carolina Power and Light, now Progress Energy, for 38 years, having retired in 1985. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, making furniture and crafts in his workshop, working out at the Family Y in Goldsboro and watching the Atlanta Braves.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, having served as his Sunday school class president.

He worked many years with the church's Baptist men's group helping build churches and with handy man ministries.

He was a Mason and a Shriner, being a member of Palmyra Lodge 147 in Dunn, N.C.

He served in the South Pacific with the United States Army in World War II, specializing in chemical warfare.

The funeral will be at First Baptist Church in Mount Olive at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, with visitation following at First Baptist Christian Life Center. Entombment will be at Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that any donations be given to First Baptist Church of Mount Olive for its Baptist men's handicapped ramp fund or the youth mission fund.
