BETTY S. SUTTON

LAGRANGE -- Betty Jane Sanderson Sutton, 81, LaGrange, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013.

Betty was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Calypso to the late Alexander and Alice Dickson Sanderson.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Byron Lee Uzzell; and the love of her life and late husband, Nathan Edwin Sutton.

Following high school, Betty attended East Carolina Teacher's College, and received a degree in education. She primarily taught first grade during her 32 year-career.

Betty loved her family, the company of good friends, her pets and gardening. She also enjoyed watching the birds in her beautifully manicured back yard.

Betty was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, LaGrange Arts Council, LaGrange Garden Club and the Lenoir County Humane Society.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, March 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Bonnie Clarke officiating. A reception will immediately follow.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Sue Uzzell Smith of LaGrange and Mary Uzzell Eason and husband, James Louis Eason, of Macclesfield; a granddaughter, Mary-Linton Cameron Smith of LaGrange; along with several special cousins.
