JAMES S. MARCUM

James Silas Marcum, 94, went to be with his Lord and savior Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Jim was born in Wayne County, W.Va., Nov. 5, 1918, to the late Leonard and Mae Damron Marcum.

He retired from Clark Grave Vault Co. in Columbus, Ohio, after 20 years of service.

Jim served his country in the United States Army during World War II at the invasion of Normandy on Omaha Beach.

He was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.

The family will greet friends Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, followed by a worship service at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Dann Patrick officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with military honors.

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, June Parsley Marcum; his son, Rev. James L. "Jim" Marcum and wife, Vicki, of Goldsboro; granddaughters, Melissa Marcum Osuna and husband, Marcos, and Sarah Marcum; sisters, Isabelle M. Ellis and Thelma M. Dannison; and brother, Amos Marcum.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Leon Thomas Marcum; brothers, Emory Franklin Marcum, Herman Marcum and Elwood Marcum; and sisters, Frances M. Rutherford and Ruby Damron.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Southeastern Free Will Baptist Bible College, 532 Eagle Rock Road, Wendell, N.C., 27591.
