WILLIAM HAROLD BOYER

Bill Boyer passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, at home at the age of 85.

Bill was born in Charlotte Aug. 1, 1927, to Hugh Graves and Elizabeth Morrison Boyer.

He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the Gimghoul Society.

Bill served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Korea.

Bill married Ruth Boyce Edgerton March 22, 1952, and moved to Goldsboro in 1953, where he worked with his father-in-law at J.M. Edgerton and Sons, which later became Boyer Motor and Equipment Co.

He and Ruth also established Second Fling.

Bill served on the Goldsboro Board of Education for 12 years, the board of directors of Wachovia, First American Savings and Loan, Walnut Creek Country Club, St. Paul United Methodist Church and Goldsboro Golf Club, and also served as board chairman of the Salvation Army.

He was a member of Kiwanis and Rotary.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Rod and Gun Club and the Nomads of Mattamuskeet, and was a champion crow caller.

Bill's motto was always "life is good," and he lived his life to the fullest with a great sense of humor, a generous heart and responsibility of civic duty.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Edergton Boyer of the home; three daughters, Ruth Boyer Whitlock and husband, Frederick, of Sugarland, Texas, Beth Boyer of Raleigh and Lamont Boyer Farmer of Raleigh; grandchildren, Amelia Vick, Gavin Whitlock, Grace Farmer and Emily Whitlock; great-grandson, Blake Vick-Sandoval; and brothers, Hugh G. Boyer and wife, Ann, of Chapel Hill and James C. Boyer and wife, Cecilia of Charlotte.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lyston Farmer of Raleigh.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church Saturday, Dec. 22, at 3 p.m.

Visitation will follow the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Home Health Hospice Care (3HC), 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC, 27534.

A special thank you to Danita Williams, Sharon Pearce, Pam Berry, Karen Lotz, Nancy Penny and Denise Newton, who provided care and companionship, and will be forever part of our extended family.
