PIKEVILLE -- Jasper "Jack" Kirby, 89, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Jack was born in Wayne County Sept. 19, 1923, to the late Henry and Cora Brown Kirby.

He retired from DuPont in 1982 after 29 years of service.

Jack served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.

Jack was a true sportsman, most comfortable in the woods. He was a hunter of quail, and loved walking in the woods and fields with a gun.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Burial will follow in Pikeville Cemetery with military honors.

Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ramona Hicks Kirby; children, Beverly Gregory of Tallahassee, Fla., Jerry Kirby and wife, Phyllis, of Goldsboro and Kim Nicholson and husband, John, of Raleigh; and his grandchildren, Daniel Kirby, Dana K. Johnson and husband, John, Lauren Warren and Lindsey Nicholson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Sally Kirby Brown, Willie Kirby, Henry Kirby, Lloyd Kirby and Emma Kirby Hawley.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1100 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
