MOUNT OLIVE -- Doris Jane Hughes Bryan, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at her home in Mount Olive.

Mrs. Bryan was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Wallace to Herman Lee and Sallie Daniels Hughes.

She attended Faison High School and Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College.

She married Byron E. Bryan April 27, 1953.

Mr. Bryan preceded her in death on April 29, 1990. She was also predeceased by her parents and her brother, Harold Lee Hughes.

In her early years, Mrs. Bryan worked for Charles F. Cates Co. and Calypso Plywood Co. before raising her family and supporting her husband in business and community activities.

She was a loyal member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive.

She found great joy in reading a good book, working in her yard and playing bridge with her friends.

Mrs. Bryan is survived by four children, Rebecca Bryan Renfro of New Bern, Byron E. Bryan Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Miller, Mo., William H. "Bill" Bryan and wife, Scottie, of Mount Olive and Charles A. Bryan and wife, Julia, of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, Jeanne Bryan Bernick and husband, Scott, of Walcott, Iowa, Adam Bryan of Springfield, Mo., Will Bryan of Mount Olive, Byron Bryan of Raleigh and Jessica Bryan and John Bryan of Baltimore, Md.; and three great-granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Tyndall Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Bill and Scottie Bryan at 701 Hillcrest Drive, Mount Olive.
