JOYCE LEWIS SMITH

Joyce Lewis Smith was granted her angel wings Aug. 7, 2012. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Joyce had touched in some way throughout her very memorable life.
Joyce was born in Wayne County Nov. 16, 1955, to Virginia Lewis and the late William Lewis Sr.
Joyce attended Goldsboro High School and, graduated in the class of 1974.
She was later employed at O'Berry Hospital for several years, and obtained her CNA certification.
Joyce was an active member at Elm Grove Church Ministries in Pikeville. She was a member of the One Voice Choir and hospitality, the Women on the Move and the drama department.
Joyce's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of her existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile, bubbly personality and positive energy brought so much joy to her family and friends.
Although she is no longer with us on this earth, she gave us all such courage and hope, and reminded us of the preciousness of life and a legacy that is left behind by the fruits of one's works.
Joyce leaves to cherish her precious memory her mother, Virginia Lewis; a son, Aaron Brown; a brother, William Lewis, Jr.; a loving sister-in-law, Brenda Lewis; a nephew Cory Mayo and his wife, Kimberly; and two nieces, Melinda Barnett and Melissa Lee.
Joyce was a loving grandmother to five beautiful grandchildren, an aunt to five great-nephews and a great-niece, who, during her life, brought her endless joy and love.
Joyce also leaves her inner circle of friends, Carolyn Brown, May Dickerson and Sharon Jackson, who were so dedicated to helping her in the most difficult times; a loving friend, Joe Wells; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held today from 2 to 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, 401 N. William St., Goldsboro.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Goldsboro-Raleigh District Assembly, 211 W. Hooks River Road.
Following the services in the sanctuary, Ms. Smith's delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted by E.M. Matthews' angelic white fleet to Old Mill for interment rites.
Ms. Smith and the Lewis-Smith family are in the hallmark of care at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.
