ETTA L. 'SISTER GAL' KORNEGAY

Etta L. Kornegay "Sister Gal" was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Best Station. She departed her life July 25, 2012.

She was married to the late Ezra Kornegay Sr.

Etta was educated in LaGrange School System.

In her retirement, she enjoyed cooking, helping others and spending lots of time with her family.

At the age of 9, she joined St. James Church of Christ in LaGrange. She lived her life for the Lord, and served with great joy. She was a member of the usher board for many years.

Etta had a great passion for giving to others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Savage and Henrietta Exum Savage; brothers, Wheeler "Duboy" Savage, Jessie James Savage, Frank James Savage, Roy Savage Jr. "Brad" and Leonard "Buddy" Savage; sisters, Geraldine Savage Kyle and Lauria "Sis" Savage; and sister-in-law, Ada Kornegay.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories to her four sons, Ezra "Pete" Kornegay of Newark, N.J., Edward E. (Suzanne) Kornegay of Germany, Ivory L. (Juanita) Kornegay of Fort Washington, Md., and Dennis L. Kornegay of Goldsboro; and four siblings, Acoyer (Martha) Savage of Columbia, Md., Thomas M. (Rosa) Savage of Charlotte, Sarah Savage of Kinston and Beatrice "Hattie Bee" Savage of New York, N.Y.

She had 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She raised her grandchildren, LaShawn McNeill, Etta Joyce Kornegay, Dennis R. Coley and Shacita Brinson as her own.

Family will be receiving friends at 214 Alpha Court, Apt G, Goldsboro, where the family will also gather for the funeral procession.

A visitation will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Heart to Heart Pray House at 114 Caswell St., LaGrange.

A celebration of life will be held immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m. Following the services in the sanctuary, Ms. Kornegay's delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted by E.M. Matthews' angelic white fleet to Fairview Cemetery for interment rites.

Ms. Kornegay and the Kornegay family are in the hallmark of care at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.
