DONNIE M. BUTTS
Aug. 19, 1941-July 23, 2012
LAGRANGE -- Donnie Morris Butts, 70, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville surrounded by his family.
Donnie was born in Wayne County Aug. 19, 1941, to the late Clifton Earl Butts and Inez Garris Butts.
He was a self-employed brick mason, with his handiwork evident in many homes and businesses throughout the area.
Donnie was a member of Walnut Creek Original Free Will Baptist Church, and enjoyed Southern gospel music.
The greatest joys in Donnie's life were God, family, friends and fishing.
Mr. Butts treasured the special relationship that he had with his little buddy, Parker.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony McLamb and Dr. Elvin Butts officiating. Interment will be Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Gray Family Cemetery in LaGrange.
Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ann Gray Butts; his daughter, Diane Butts Strickland and husband, Ben; his son, Donnie M. Butts Jr.; his grandchildren, Ben Strickland Jr. and wife, Adrienne, Cameron Strickland, Pam Jessup and husband, David, and Stacie Strickland; and his great-grandchildren, Ally Strickland, Luke Jessup, Delaney Jessup and Parker Strickland.
He is also survived by his sisters, Emily B. Gurley and Becky B. Strickland; four nieces; two nephews; six great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Walnut Creek Original Free Will Baptist Church, 138 N. Beston Road, LaGrange, N.C. 28551, or Hope Lodge Cancer Center, 930A Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.
The Butts family would like to express its most sincere appreciation to Hope Lodge, as well as the many doctors and nurses for the exceptional care given to the family during Mr. Butts' treatment.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence, 483 Guy Smith Road, LaGrange.
