DURHAM -- Ms. Annie "Ann" D. Lewis, 60, who was a resident of Durham, died at Duke Home Care and Hospice Friday, July 20, 2012, following a long illness.

She was born in Wayne County Oct. 26, 1951, to the late Clarence and Emma Harvey Lewis.

Annie attended Wayne County Schools, and graduated in 1970 from Norwayne High School. She attended college at North Carolina Central University in Durham, and was later employed by Duke University Hospital in Durham, where she began her career in data information.

Annie began her career with Duke University Hospital as a data terminal operator in surgical unit administration in 1974; later she became the assistant data terminal operator supervisor from 1981 to 1991. She then served as unit services coordinator in the cardiothoracic acute unit from 1991 to 1994.

Ann retired from Duke University in November 1994 after 20 years of service during which she received several certificates of appreciation for her dedication and contributions to Duke University Hospital.

In recent years, she was last employed as a manager with National Finance Co. in Durham until 2007.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Chester Lee Harvey of Goldsboro.

Annie is survived by her sister, Mary Harvey of Fremont; a brother, Thurman Lewis of Durham; a sister, Janet Jennette of Goldsboro; a sister-in-law, Rosa Lee (Chester) Harvey of Goldsboro; an uncle, Alexander Lewis of Greensboro; six aunts, Wilma (Lester) Harvey of Goldsboro, Mary (Moses) Harvey of Norfolk, Va., Margaret (Leonard) Harvey of Goldsboro, Darlene (Al) Usher of Queens, N.Y., Marie (David) Rice of Detroit, Mich., and Louise Meredith of Winston-Salem.

She is further survived by a niece, Yvonne Sutton (Dwayne) Booth of Raleigh, and other special nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service for Annie D. Lewis will be held at noon Saturday, July 28, 2012, at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, 401 N. William St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family Friday, July 27, 2012, between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. at her sister Mary Harvey's home at 204 S. Goldsboro St., Fremont, N.C., 27830
