IRIS DAVIS DOCTOR

Feb. 2, 1943-April 21, 2012

SHARPSBURG -- Our beloved Iris Davis Doctor was born Feb. 2, 1943, in Duplin County to the late Cora Lee Davis Lofton and Rayford Lofton. Iris peacefully departed this life Saturday, April 21, 2012, in Rocky Mount.

Iris began serving the Lord at an early age while growing up in Wayne County. It was at that time she became a member of Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church in Seven Springs, where she attended regularly.

While living in Mount Olive, Iris was educated in the elementary public school, and after her parents moved to Goldsboro, she attended secondary school at Dillard High School.

After high school, Iris moved to New York, where she was employed as a nanny. After living in New York for several years, Iris decided to move back home to Goldsboro, where she dedicated her time as being a wife, homemaker and mom.

Later in life, Iris chose to seek a career in the medical field, where she became employed as a home health care aide in Sharpsburg, where she resided until her death.

Among family and friends, Iris found enjoyment when she was talking, gathering with family on special occasions, cooking and taking special care of her beautiful flowers.

Surviving to cherish her memories are six daughters, Sheila (James) Dixon of Goldsboro Blenda (Eugene) Autry of Fayetteville, Melissa Cousins of Raleigh, Leticia (Josue) Serrano of Knightdale, Yolanda Moore of Tucker Ga., and Blanche (Francisco) Aguilar of Garner; three sons: Roland Crump Jr. of Tucker Ga., and Johnny Doctor Jr. and Robert Doctor III both of Raleigh, two sisters; Bertha (Marvan) Lofton Pettiford of Mount Holly and eldress Deloris Brinson of Dudley; five brothers, elder Kermit (Naomi) Brinson and Nate (Annie) Brinson of Dudley, David (Margaret) Brinson and Clarence (Pam) Brinson of Goldsboro and Andrew Brinson of Wilson; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Homegoing services will be Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

A viewing will be held Friday, April 27, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory.
