RENA LANIER SINGLETON

Rena Lanier Singleton, 89, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, April 13, 2012, at Wilson Medical Center.
A service to celebrate Rena's life will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Park East Church of God with the Rev. J. Wesley Jarman and her grandsons, the Rev. Steve Singleton and the Rev. Greg Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Rena was born in Duplin County on Dec. 28, 1922, to the late George Arthur Lanier and Dora Banks Lanier. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Walter Dawson Singleton. Rena was a godly woman who loved the Lord and her family and set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives. She was a long time member of Park East Church of God and the Ladies Auxiliary. Rena was no longer able to attend but remained a prayer warrior for her church. She always enjoyed calls and visits from her pastor, Wesley Jarman and her church family. Rena had a dear friend there, Louise Conway, who loved her dearly. She always put her faith and trust in her Lord and Savior. This April 15th, Rena will celebrate her wedding anniversary with her beloved Walter.
Her home for the past six months was The Landing in Wilson. She was so proud of her new home and loved showing it off to her family and friends. But mostly, she just loved having the company. Prior to moving to Wilson, she had resided in New Bern with her daughter and son-in-law, Dottie and Fred Mills, for six years. However her heart was always in Goldsboro, her home for 59 years with her husband, Walter. This is where they raised their children.
Rena is survived by her children, Dottie Mills and husband, Fred, of New Bern, Leslie Singleton and wife, Gail, of Princeton, Linwood Singleton and wife, Lynda, of New Bern, Sarah Strickland and husband, Lee, of Charleston, S.C., and Durwood Singleton and wife, Cathy, of Rosewood; and her brothers, Rodolph Lanier of Cumming, Ga. and Monroe Lanier of Raleigh. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life and each one had a special place in her heart.
The Singleton family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff and her new friends at The Landing. She felt so welcomed and loved.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter Thurman "Buddy" Singleton; her great-granddaughters, Amber Singleton and Madison Powers; one sister and three brothers.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 16, 2012, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Durwood and Cathy Singleton, 113 Friendswood Drive, Goldsboro.
