MOUNT OLIVE -- Kevin Eugene Wise Jr., 17, passed away early Saturday morning at home.
He was a member of the 2012 senior class at Southern Wayne High School. The game of baseball was his life, and while at Southern Wayne, he had been a standout player.
His abilities had led him to have recently been awarded a four-year scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to play on the Tar Heels baseball team.
Also, he had been a member of the travel ball team from American Legion Post 11.
He was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, and had received multiple sports and academic awards, including the Jerry Narron Award for Wayne County's High School Baseball Player of the Year.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Waters Wise of the home; his father and stepmother, Kevin and Debby Wise of Mount Olive; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Elsie Swinson of the home; his paternal grandmother, Faye Wise of Dudley; a brother, Trey Pate of the home; a half-brother, Dalton Wise of Mount Olive; five half-sisters, Hayleigh Wise, Kendall Wise, Harley Wise, Kinsee Wise and Kylee Wise all of Mount Olive; a stepsister, Ashley Arnette of Mount Olive; his girlfriend, Cierra Moody; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Cecil Waters and Billy Lee Wise.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Southern Wayne High School gymnasium, officiated by the Rev. David Jackson.
The family will receive friends there immediately following the service. At other times, they will be at 271 Cricket Ridge Road, Mount Olive, and also at 1802 Indian Springs Road, Mount Olive.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are requested to be made to Southern Wayne Baseball Program in memory of Kevin Wise, c/o Southern Wayne High School, 124 Southern Wayne Road, Dudley, N.C., 28333.
