BENJAMIN "BILL" BRITT

Sept. 18, 1944-Feb. 9, 2012

Benjamin Thomas "Bill" Britt, 67, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Johnnie Clayton and Elizabeth Person Britt.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Emolyn Britt "Emma Lou" Lancaster.

He served in the United States Army Reserve at Morehead City.

He was a wallpaperer for several years until Parkinson's disease limited the use of his hands.

Bill worked as the director of the Flynn Home until his retirement in 2010.

He loved fishing and Tar Heel basketball, and was an avid reader.

A graveside service will be held at Wayne Memorial Park Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m., with his nephew, pastor Joey Lancaster, officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Bill is survived by his son, Thomas Alan Britt and wife, Angie, of Pikeville; a granddaughter, Emma Grace Britt; nieces, Debby Howell and husband, Jay, of Pikeville, Trudi Rast and husband, Matt, of Pikeville, and Paige Renfrow and husband, Brandon, of Pikeville; nephews, Gordon Lancaster and wife, Terri, of Goldsboro and the Rev. Joey Lancaster and wife, Amy, of Goldsboro; great-nieces and nephews, Ayden, Brock and Bethany Lancaster and Maci Rast; brother-in-law, Lee G. Lancaster ;and special friend, Diane Britt Andrews of Pikeville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Flynn Home, 409 N. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family would like to express thanks to the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the kindness and care shown to Bill during his recent declining health.
