REBECCA V. DAVIS

RICHMOND, Va. -- Rebecca Jane Vernon Davis passed peacefully from this life Feb. 2, 2012, after a long struggle with medical complications.
She was born in Goldsboro, daughter of the late Thomas Alfred and Pauline Jane Vernon.
She graduated from Mount Olive High School, and lived for a time in Smithfield and Garner.
She attended Virginia Commonwealth University, and was employed for many years by Chippenham Johnston-Willis Hospitals as a radiology secretary.
After high school, she briefly worked for the Mount Olive Tribune.
She was married to McDonald Davis III, Ph.D., for 42 years.
She is survived by sons, Barry Thomas (Amy) of Richmond and Steven McDonald (Katie) of Powhatan.
She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Zoe Ellen, Rebecca Ann, Kristen Marie, Ian McDonald and Cora Ellen Davis; brother, James William Vernon (Yolanda) of Goldsboro; sister, Paula Marie Tomlinson (John) of Raleigh; and nephew, John Barnes of York, S.C.
She was preceded in death by brother, Rowland L. Vernon, formerly of Goldsboro and Richmond.
Becky loved her family and her friends, and always remembered others on special occasions.
She struggled with her health challenges for many years. Her happy and gentle nature was an inspiration to her husband, family members and friends. She always put her family and friends above self. Her family and beautiful grandchildren were her greatest gift and encouragement in her final years.
Funeral arrangements are by Bliley Funeral Home, 6900 Hull Street Road in Richmond, Va.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at 2 p.m.
The family will receive relatives and friends at 1 p.m. in the chapel and after the ceremony.
She will be interred at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, Va., at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, the Lupus Foundation of Virginia or other charitable organizations involved in helping the needy.
