JAMES LAVERNE CASNER SR.

KINSTON -- James LaVerne Casner Sr., 79, Kinston passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2012.
Born Oct. 13, 1932, in Jersey Shore, Pa., he was the son of the late Edgar Moffit Casner and Hazel Inez Wolfe Casner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Joseph Casner, and brother, Donald Clarence Casner.
James proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from maintenance with DuPont, had been involved with the Boy Scouts since 1955 and enjoyed karate, camping and watching ESPN on television.
He will be remembered as a loving father.
Survivors include his sons, James LaVerne Casner Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Kinston and Donald Wayne Casner and wife, Jennifer, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Melissa Lamm and husband, Stewart, of Kinston, Frank Barnes Jr. and wife, Tammi, of LaGrange and Christopher Noah Barnes of Goldsboro; great-grandchildren, Halie Lee and Hannah Lee; and sister, Marcilynn Crawley and husband, Chub, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, and other times at 1418 Village Creek Drive, Kinston.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Westview Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Howard-Carter Funeral Home.
