EVERETTE "BUCK" GODWIN

EUREKA -- Everette "Buck" Godwin, 72, 108 W. Martin St., born June 22, 1939, in Lucama, went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ Jan. 18, 2012.
He was raised in Wilson, and after graduation from high school, entered the military and retired a technical sergeant in the United States Air Force, serving tours in Vietnam.
After retirement, he resided in Eureka, serving as the police officer prior to becoming a rural route mail carrier, where he again retired.
He, along with his wife, Ann, served the local community with Meals-On-Wheels, and they established the National Day of Prayer in Fremont.
They, as a couple, co-founded Cornerstone Assembly of God in Fremont. Through all of these accomplishments, countless numbers of people have been blessed.
He married the love of his life, Ann Theresa McSweeney, and they were married 52 years.
He is survived by three sons, Everette Dennis Godwin of Goldsboro, Kenneth Roy Godwin and wife, Judy, of Pikeville and Michael James Godwin and wife, Lynn, of Pikeville.
He was blessed with eight grandsons and three great-grandsons.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jackie Godwin of Wilson; a brother and sister-in-law, Marian and Phillip Woodard of Avon, N.J.; another brother-in-law, Edward Young of Verona, N.J.; an aunt, Doris Godwin of Lucama; and an aunt, Helen Crafford of Williamsburg, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Godwin; his parents, Ruby Beatrice Raper Godwin and Everette Eli Godwin; and a brother, Stanley H. Godwin.
Visitation with the family will be at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont Friday night, Jan. 20, 2012, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with the memorial service Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home chapel in Fremont, conducted by the Rev. Travis Moore and the Rev. Scott Ezzell. Interment will follow at Eureka Cemetery in Eureka.
