SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Tony, 58, Goldsboro, N.C., died at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston Township, Essex County, N.J.
He is survived by brothers, Lewis Howard (Cowania) Sampson of Goldsboro, N.C., William D. Sampson of Alexandria, Va., and Robert T. (Joann) Sampson of Charlotte, N.C., three sisters, Millie A. Sampson-Boyd, Deronda N. (Terry) Cox and Althea R. (William) Grantham all of Goldsboro, N.C.; a special friend, Dr. Juergen Heinrichs of South Orange, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen D. Sampson, and father, Calvin Sampson; a brother, Calvin Sampson Jr.; and two sisters, Deborah B. Moore and Maryellen Sampson-Peterson, both of Goldsboro, N.C.
Tony's life work consisted of attending to the needs of many as a certified nurse's assistant, intern medical social work coordinator and his major accomplishment, receiving his master's degree in social work in May of 2001, then working as a support counselor master's social work counselor at JFK Medical Center in New Brunswick, N.J.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. (weather permitting) at Abundant Grace Church, 221 Durham Lake Road, Dudley, N.C.
The family would like to thank Preston Funeral Home of South Orange, N.J., for its excellent spirit of service.
