John "Jack" Ernest Helmer, 78, of Wilson, died Thursday.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Willowdale Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Doug Murray will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Mr. Helmer is survived by four nieces, Cathy Helmer, Susan Johnson and husband, Clay, all of Wilson, Margie Mullis and husband, Joe, of Fayetteville and Pam Blemker and husband, Mike, of Spring Hope; a nephew, Harry Helmer Jr. and wife, Lynn, of Elm City; 10 great-nieces and nephews, Harry Helmer III (Theresa), Elizabeth Jordan (Philip), Thomas Helmer, Jacob Johnson (Becky), Travis Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Bennett Johnson, Hannah Mullis, Abby Mullis and Will Sigmon.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Peggy Helmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of Wilson, PO Box 1467, Wilson, NC 27894 or WilMed Hospice, 1705 Tarboro Street SW, Wilson, NC 27893.
Arrangements are by Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
