IRENE SYKES HILL HAGELL

KINSTON -- Irene Sykes Hill Hagell, 87, Kinston, N.C., passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at home.

Mrs. Hagell was born in Lenoir County, N.C., July 20, 1923, to Betty Jenkins Sykes and Elijah Sykes of Southwood community.

She was a graduate of Southwood School, and a member of Southwood Memorial Christian Church, the adult women's Sunday school class and the Wednesday morning circle.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hagell was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Tully Hill; a son, Harvey Tull Hill, who lived in Arapahoe, N.C.; sisters, Eva S. Rakestraw of Reidsville, N.C., Cora Dell S. Franks of Elon, NC., Ruth S. Harris Piaski, and Ethel S. Dawson of Kinston, N.C.; and brothers Jackson Sykes, Jack Sykes and Garland Sykes all of Kinston, N.C.

Surviving are her husband, Ron Hagell of the home; a daughter Kathryn Hill Kilpatrick and husband, Danny Kilpatrick, of Lexington, N.C.; a granddaughter, Heather Irene Dunn of Lexington; grandsons, John Harvey Hill and friend, Erica, of Grantsboro, N.C., Donald Tull Hill and wife, Betsy, of Pikeville. NC., and David Roy Hill and wife, Kelly, of Stantonsburg, N.C.; great-grandson, Thad Hill of Pikeville, N.C.; a stepgreat-grandson, Chandler Tyndall of Pikeville, N.C.; stepson, Ronald "Ronnie" Hagell and wife, Beate, of London, England: stepdaughters, Barbara H. Wallace and husband, Bob Wallace, of Summerville, S.C., Patti H. Squires of Columbia, S.C., and Bonnie H. Kelly of Columbia, S.C.; seven stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Southwood Memorial Christian Church 1027 N.C. 58 south, Kinston, N.C., with the Rev. Rick Vernon and the Rev. Dexter Wasson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jack Sykes, William Sykes, Todd Sykes, Bruce Williamson, Billy Moore and Roger Hill all of Kinston, N.C.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Family Life Center located at the church. The burial will be at Deep Run Free Will Baptist Church, Deep Run, N.C.
