KENLY -- Jimmy McCoy Mayo, 69, Kenly, N.C., passed away May 6, 2011, at WakeMed surrounded by his family.

He was the son of Silas McCoy Mayo and Juanita Aldridge Mayo.

He is survived by his son, Patrick K. Mayo of Lucama; daughter, Stephanie M. Fielder of Oklahoma; grandsons, Dusty Pennington and wife, April, Chris Pennington and Marsha and Will Pennington; sisters, Margie M. Oldham of Chapel Hill, Patricia M. Ross of Hillsborough and Shirley M. Ferrell of Durham; aunt, Inza Boone and husband, Doug; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Oldham, Jerry Oldham and Ashley Holt and children, Ripkin, Koy, Trisha Jean, Samantha, Kakie, Raleigh, Karen Ross, Amy Ferrell, Pam Ferrell and Mark Ferrell; great-grandchildren, Dalton Pennington, Haley Pennington, Christian Pennington and Zoe Pennington; employee and special friend, Jimmy Braswell; and many other loving relatives and friends.

The family will be receiving friends at Minshew-Coley Funeral Home Tuesday, May 10, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Service will be at Little Rock Original Free Will Baptist Church in Lucama Wednesday, May 11, at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in Silas Lucas Cemetery.

Jimmy was born in Johnston County in the Micro community, and raised in Wilson County, working on the family farm.

He graduated from Kenly High School, and then he served in the United States Army military police corps from 1960 to 1963.

After completing his military service, he joined the North Carolina Highway Patrol in 1964. He then retired in November 1990, after 30 years of service.

After retirement, he devoted all his time to his farm.

He was a member of Little Rock Original Free Will Baptist Church in Lucama.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Little Rock Baptist Church.

The family wishes to thank the staff of WakeMed CICU-A, extended family and friends for their care and support during this time.
