SHERWOOD D. ANDERSON

Sherwood Dee Anderson, 51, went to be with his Lord, whom he served so faithfully, Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Duke University Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

Sherwood was born in Fairfax County, Va., March 7, 1960, to the late Franklin Roosevelt Anderson and Shirley Lee Bradshaw.

For more than 25 years, Sherwood worked in the Sleepy Creek Hatchery of Goldsboro Milling Co. until he became medically disabled.

Sherwood was a longtime member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and a vacation Bible school teacher, sang in the choir and served as a deacon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at 6 p.m. at Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jackie Hamm, the Rev. Danny Hamm, the Rev. Travis Smith and the Rev. Danny Williams officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will held Sunday, March 20, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Danny Hamm and the Rev. Marc Swanner officiating.

Sherwood was a man of incredible faith in God, hope for the world and love for others. He is remembered as a generous, caring, compassionate man, and loyal friend to so many. Even during his illness he never gave up or let go of his firm belief in the power of prayer. Sherwood's determination to let it be God's will was an inspiration to all who knew him.

He was also a man who had a great love for gospel music. For more than 20 years, he worked with the TV ministry of Message of New Beginnings at WHFL-TV. Second only to God was Sherwood's love for his family.

He was the best daddy and husband, who will be truly missed.

Sherwood is survived by his wife of 20 years, Phyllis H. Anderson; his son, Joshua Tyler Anderson; his brother, Billy Anderson and wife, Leslie, of Goldsboro; his sisters, Brenda Aldrich and husband, Cliff, of Mount Olive and Theresa Anderson of Goldsboro; his stepmother, Mary Ellen Anderson of Kinston; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jimmy and Iris Holloman of Whiteville; his brothers-in-law, Alton Holloman and wife, Tina, of Whiteville and John Holloman and wife, Lora, of Fayetteville; and his special friends, Peggy Wade and family of Jasper, Ala., and Janice Myers and husband, Kenneth, of Goldsboro. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and his special K-9 friend, "Snowflake."

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joshua Anderson Education Fund at Heritage Bank, P.O. Box 11299, Goldsboro, N.C., 27532.
