JOHN HAMMOND "JACK" TARBOX

Retired Air Force Technical Sgt. John Hammond "Jack" Tarbox, 78, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Lifecare Hospitals in Rocky Mount, N.C.
Jack was born in Farmington, Maine, Feb. 16, 1932, to the late Orland Jordan and Eleanor Sallie Tarbox.
He served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired as a technical sergeant after 20 years of service. Jack proudly served during the Vietnam War and the Korean War. He was later selected to serve in top security missions at the United States Embassy in South America.
Jack was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends following the service.
Jack is survived by his wife, Joyce Boykin Tarbox; his sons, Jon Jordan and Mark Alan Tarbox of Texas; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Anne and Kelly Shannon of New Mexico; nephew, Brian Shannon; great-nephews, Eric and Cole Shannon; great-niece, Miranda Shannon; and sister-in-law, Audrey Boykin Brady of Winston-Salem.
The family would like to thank the doctors and the staff at Lifecare Hospitals for their devotion, care and kindness for Jack and Joyce during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 112 Patrick St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or to the charity of one's choice.
