CHESTER "BUDDY" RAY OATES

Chester "Buddy" Ray Oates Sr. was born Aug. 7, 1957, to the late Chester "Gabe" Oates and Lola McQueen Oates of Mount Olive, N.C. He slipped into eternal rest Dec. 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Wake Memorial Hospital.
He received his education in the Wayne County Public School System, and was later employed at Britthaven of Golds-boro and Sunbridge Care and Rehabili-tation of Mount Olive.
In his spare time he enjoyed grilling, barbecuing pigs and fishing.
He is survived his mother, Lola McQueen Oates; a daughter, Makeise (Donald) Faison-Ricks of Maryland; three sons, Demetrius Best of Georgia, S.C., Marcus Herring of Mount Olive, N.C., and Chester Ray Oates Jr. of Goldsboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Dominick Ricks and Christopher Ricks; a brother, William "Duke" (Wilhelmina) Smith; two sisters, Mary (Joseph) Moore of Mount Olive, N.C., and Doris Oates Allen of Dudley, N.C.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A viewing for Mr. Oates will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at New Spirit Church Ministries. Following services in the sanctuary, Mr. Oates, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Grantham Family Cemetery for interment rites.
Services of compassion and distinguished class are provided by E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations Inc.
