CHARLES EDWIN LANCASTER

MOUNT OLIVE -- Charles Edwin Lancaster, 85, 607 Smith Chapel Road, went to be with his Lord Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Daughtry officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.

Mr. Lancaster was born in Wilson County Oct. 15, 1924, to the late Reb E. Lancaster and Lillie Jackson Lancaster.

He was retired from the trucking business.

A member of May's Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church in Dudley, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, he was also a Mason and a Gideon.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Bartlett Lancaster of the home; his sons, Charles R. Lancaster and wife, Harriet, of Wilmington and J. Reb Lancaster and wife, Deborah, of Kinston; his daughter, Barbara E. Lancaster and husband, the Rev. Frank Harrison, of Mount Olive; seven grandchildren, Jeff Lancaster and wife, Melissa, of Raleigh, Johnny Lancaster and wife, Stephanie, of Carolina Beach, Chris Williams and wife, Jeanne, of Pensacola, Fla., Amy Witherington of Mount Olive, Kris Harrison and wife, Kasey, of Garner, Shannon Lancaster of Madison, Tenn., and Elizabeth L. Mewborn and husband, Jacob, of LaGrange; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Margaret L. Matthews of Goldsboro, and a brother, Michael R. Lancaster of Black Creek.

Along with his parents, a sister, Jessie Mae Godwin, preceded him in death.

Flowers are welcome; however, memorial gifts may be made to the Charles Edwin and Evelyn Bartlett Lancaster Scholarship Endowment, Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson S., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, or the local chapter of Gideons International.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service tonight, and at other times at 118 Ridgecrest Drive in Mount Olive.
